Hi! Good day! This is Shierwin H. Alberio, from Tabuan, Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, Philippines. I was 19 years old, and was born on April 21,1992 from a poor family, my father is a farmer and my mother is a housewife only. We are 8 in the family, my two brothers, two sisters and I am the eldest, including my parents and my grandmother .
Since my father is just only a farmer and my mother is just a housewife, were sent to a public school for elementary and high school. During weekend and no classes we (the brothers and sisters) are required to help the household chores for my two sisters and I, together with my 16 year old brother are helping my father in our little farm to clean, plant bananas, coconut, vegetables, rice, corn, root crops and any agricultural products that could help our living to survive.
I graduated as a class valedictorian in my elementary years and was a class salutatorian in my high school years and gathered special awards such as Science and technology Award, Journalist of the Year, from the Office of the President of the Philippines and also one of the awardees of Leadership award, I realized then that even if I'm financially defit still I can achieve my education.
Months later, after my high school graduation, I enrolled to Foundation University, Dumaguete City taking up Bachelor of Arts Major in Broadcast Communication as a full scholar for 21 units and enjoying the PHP 2500.00 scholarship from the Office of the provincial government of Negros Oriental for my allowance that's good for one semester. During the first day of classes I was already 17 years old at that time, I tried to apply as a newscaster at DYFU GREYHOUND 101.3 FM (Foundation University educational radio facility) fortunately I was accepted by the station program director. Four months later, the management of DYFU FM designated me as the news director for several news program and to be one of the disc jockeys during weekend, with the help of broadcast students of the university and our production manager and now our current Radio and TV manager.
As time goes by my interests in radio become wider and when I was 18 years old, I have a best friend who worked at DYEM ENEGRY FM 96.7 MHz., THE NEGROS CHRONICLE RADIO asked me if I am willing to be one the police reporter at night for a certain public affairs program, I took the offer since before I was asking her if they need more radio personality, since I need money to support my studies because my parents can't support everything. I worked as a police bit reporter and as a half scholar student for four months. But my classmates and friends are also supporting me at that time including my adviser in college, they gave me money, rice and any help they can gave to me. Moreover, I have a sideline from A.M. radio station too, at DYWC RADYO BANDILYO 801kHz, (a radio station operated by the Diocesan of Dumaguete City under the umbrella of Radio Mindanao Network) that was May 2010 national election and October 2010 Election I worked also as a corespondent to cover the election scenarios in my hometown.
On the other hand, while I am a field reporter at that time I am searching for a person who can help me in my expenses in school. Luckily I found an engineer to support me in my studies, I worked there as a house helper together with my sister next to me that is also studying in college.
After my second year in college my parents decided me to stop from studying because they have a hard time in finding money considering that my brother and sister are already high school and two in college. So my boss(the engineer) knows about it and told me to find a better job in the city at the same time studying rather than to quit from schooling. Then, I decided to apply anywhere, either fast food, hard wares or just anything so long as I have a work, it came to my mind what if I will try to apply in a call center which has a higher pay, on that day I applied and fortunately I was hired and until now I was able to continue to go to school because of my work and I even let my sister (next to me) to sent to school for one semester only but now she stops from studying because of some reasons.
Now ( during 2011), I am trying to work hard, working in the morning for 8 hours and in the afternoon go to school to attend classes. From 2011 where I served as a call center agent(Qualfon Phils. Dumaguete), I go back to my passion which is news casting and Disc jockying at Greyhound 101.3FM of Foundation University. After graduates, March 2013- I still continue my radio show at G101 FM. Months later ,my colleague at BAI Radio 96.7 FM, offerred me if I'm willing to become a DJ and a news reporter in a newly opened radio station wherein she's the manager of it. I took the offer last July 2013 and I worked at 93.7 The Original Energy FM Dumaguete as a DJ and as the same time a field reporter. But 8 months later I resigned both, from my call center job and at Energy FM because another big opportunity in my life came in.
May 12, 2014 I was hired at GMA7 News and Public Affairs Admin as one of their staff and until now I'm still working at GMA7 and GMANEWSTV11.
I am very thankful for my ever supportive classmates, friends, advisers in college, and for the people who are part of my history and being part of my trials, hardships and difficulties in life and most of all to the Almighty Father, Jesus Christ, Our Lord.
(I believed that "Poverty is not the hindrance to success")
